This fifth volume in the book series on Nuclear Non-Proliferation in International Law focuses on various legal aspects regarding nuclear security and nuclear deterrence. It also contains contributions by CELA legal counsel Kerrie Blaise and Greenpeace program director Shawn-Patrick Stensil.

In their chapter titled “Small Modular Reactors in Canada: Eroding Public Oversight and Canada’s Transition to Sustainable Development”, Blaise & Stensil argue that industry-based policy and law reform requests have undermined the public oversight of nuclear safety in Canada and is impeding our transition to sustainable development.

The series on Nuclear Non-Proliferation in International Law, edited by Jonathan L. Black-Branch and Dieter Fleck, provides scholarly research articles with critical commentaries on relevant treaty law, best practice and legal developments, thus offering an academic analysis and information on practical legal and diplomatic developments both globally and regionally. It sets a basis for further constructive discourse at both national and international levels.

CELA’s previous contribution to Vol IV of this text regarding nuclear law, oversight and transparency is publicly accessible online.
