The webinar will examine the evolution of federal and Ontario environmental assessment processes. Joseph Castrilli will outline the 2012 review of CEAA and subsequent Expert Panel which considered a number of challenges including changes to scoping and project designation and tried to streamline process options and examined provincial harmonization. Challenges with the current Bill C 69 will also be considered. Lastly Joseph will consider The Ontario EA Act and outline concerns about regulatory exemptions, barriers to public participation, the consideration of cumulative effects and challenges around Applications for Review.

Presenter : Joseph Castrilli joined the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA) in 2008 as legal counsel and is a member of the Ontario and British Columbia Bars practising in the areas of environmental and natural resources law. He also has taught environmental law courses and seminars at Queen’s University, University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. His areas of expertise are toxic substances, air pollution, and environmental assessment.
