Briefing Note: Take Action to Protect Drinking Water in Non-Municipal Systems

Twenty-five years after Walkerton, Ontario’s Auditor General found critical gaps in the oversight of non-municipal drinking water systems, affecting nearly 20% of Ontarians. The government lacks effective monitoring, enforcement, and transparency, putting public health at risk.

CELA has prepared a briefing note that calls for the Ontario government to develop and commit to an action plan by the end of 2025 to implement 17 recommendations aimed at addressing these issues. It urges public action to demand specific timelines and processes for these vital changes.
