Location – Sault Ste Marie, ON The Canadian Environmental Law Association has embarked on a new chapter of its nearly 50-year history with the expansion of legal services in Northern Ontario. Joining CELA in its provision of northern services, is Counsel Kerrie Blaise, who will reside in the north and over the next nine months, connect with communities, concerned citizens and local groups to increase access to environmental justice.

“We hope to increase our reach in communities which have been historically underserved,” comments Executive Director and Counsel, Theresa McClenaghan. “This not only means having a presence in communities so that we can assist, but determining the best method of proceeding so that in the long term, we can continue to support CELA’s northern infrastructure.”

The vastness of Northern Ontario also provides accompanying opportunities to engage and listen to local citizens and community groups, who have been defending the health of their communities and environment. From concerns about environmental protection and intergenerational effects resulting from proposed radioactive waste repositories, to the toxic impact resulting from improper sewage effluent discharges, CELA invites you to follow our work and stay tuned for further developments.
