Media Release: CELA to Represent Concerned Walkerton Citizens

Media Release

Toronto. The Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA), a legal aid clinic specializing in environmental law, will represent the Concerned Walkerton Citizens (CWC) group during the upcoming public inquiry.

CELA has a 30 year history representing citizens and community groups before the courts and administrative tribunals. This experience has included a wide range of environmental matters including a great deal of work on water issues.

CWC is the community group comprised of local residents in Walkerton. The group has been central to outlining the concerns and needs of the local community. CWC will be seeking party status both in phase I of the hearing (dealing with how the water was contaminated and related issues) and phase II of the hearing (dealing with impacts of downsizing of Environment Ministry resources and related issues).

It is expected that the inquiry, to be convened by Mr. Justice Dennis O’Connor, will commence sometime in October of this year.
