The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Collaborative is hosting its first stakeholder webinar on Tuesday, February 5 from 10:00 to 11:30 am EST. The purpose of the webinar is to present thinking to date on recommendations under development, and to solicit stakeholder input early in the process. The webinar will be facilitated by Expert Panel Co-Chairs, Gord Miller, Former Environment Commissioner of Ontario, and Jean Cinq-Mars, former Quebec Commissioner of Sustainable Development.

The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Collaborative is an independent, stakeholder-driven process to propose new and innovative ways to tackle four of the most challenging and imminent threats to the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence region:

1. toxics and other harmful pollutants

2. climate change

3. nutrients

4. beaches and bacteriological contamination

This initiative was championed by five organisations that now form the Collaborative’s Steering Committee including: Freshwater Future Canada, the Council of the Great Lakes Region, the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, and Strategies Saint Laurent.

The first phase of the Collaborative, focused on the Great Lakes, will make recommendations to governments in June 2019, and the St. Lawrence phase will make recommendations in December 2019. A final integrated report will be released in March 2020.
