CELA’s 2025 impact report shares highlights of fighting for environmental justice for Ontario’s most vulnerable communities.
At CELA, our work is grounded in a simple principle: everyone has the right to a healthy environment and meaningful access to justice. We focus on supporting low-income communities, vulnerable and under-resourced individuals, and Indigenous people who often face the greatest environmental burdens and the greatest barriers to accessing legal support.
In 2025, communities across Ontario continued to face serious environmental and health challenges – from worsening air pollution and the impacts of extreme heat, to concerns about nuclear waste and contaminated drinking water. Too often, these risks fall most heavily on communities with the fewest resources to respond.
Our work is as varied as the environmental challenges facing communities across the province. We provide legal advice and information on an ongoing basis to individuals seeking guidance, while our legal team also represents clients in complex, long-term cases that address systemic gaps in environmental protection. Beyond casework, we engage in public education and work alongside impacted communities to advocate for stronger environmental laws and policies.
This report highlights the progress made possible through that collective effort. We are grateful to our clients, partners, supporters, board, and staff who make this work possible.
