Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Toronto – In response to the Ontario government’s introduction of Bill 140, which would strip away important public environmental rights, Richard Lindgren of the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA), said:
“The Ontario government is proposing to take away your right to protect your community from environmental harm. If passed, Bill 140 would eliminate important and long-held rights of Ontarians to influence environmental decisions and seek investigations of suspected pollution violations. People know their communities best, but Bill 140 would make it harder for them to protect themselves and hold the governments accountable. The net result of Bill 140 will likely be more pollution, increased environmental degradation, and greater health risks for Ontarians. Bill 140 should be withdrawn.”
