Report: ‘F’ for Effort: Ontario is falling behind on getting lead out of school drinking water

CELA released a report calling on the Government of Ontario to make improvements to their nearly 20-year-old approach to protecting children from being exposed to lead in school drinking water.

Lead has long been a known health hazard, but updated research shows that it is even more dangerous than previously thought.

In response to this new knowledge, the federal government and the majority of provinces and territories have changed course on how they approach the issue — but Ontario is stuck in the past.

The report uses provincial data to show that, despite being one of the first provinces and territories to begin regulating lead in school drinking water in 2007, students continue to be exposed to lead today.

The report can be found below.
