Media Release: CELA Commends CNSC for taking time to make its decision on Pickering
Media Release
Toronto – Earlier today CELA received notice from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission that it is extending the operating licences for the Pickering A and Pickering B Nuclear Generating Stations by two months. The Notice stated that the Commission “requires more time to render its decision.”
CELA commends the CNSC for taking more time to make its decision on the OPG applications for licences to extend the operating life of the Pickering A and B plants. CELA submitted at the hearing that the OPG request for a five year licence should not be granted. CELA also submitted that the CNSC was lacking essential information that the Commissioners needed to make a decision on the Application, and that those decisions should not be delegated to Commission staff.
CELA’s report on Emergency Planning at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station is found on CELA’s website at https://cela.ca/emergency-planning-at-the-pickering-nuclear-generating-station/
and CELA’s presentation to the Commission at the hearing in May 2013 can be found at https://cela.ca/emergency-planning-at-pickering-a-b-nuclear-generating-station/
