Proposed Amendments to Bill S-5, An Act to Amend the Canadian Environmental Protection Act
Bill C-28, an Act to amend the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (“CEPA,1999”) was tabled for First Reading in Parliament on April 13, 2021. The Bill died on the order paper due to the intervening 2021 federal election but was re-introduced in the Senate of Canada in February 2022 as Bill S-5 in furtherance of Prime Ministerial mandate letters, and passed by the Senate on June 22, 2022. The Bill was introduced in the House of Commons last week and has passed first reading
CELA has made several recommendations which are reformulated as amendments to Bill S-5 in a document called Proposed Amendments Submitted to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development on Bill S-5, An Act to Amend the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, etc.
