CELA submitted a brief to the Ontario government regarding the province's proposal to revoke the current Municipal Class EA and to pass a new regulation under the EAA that sets out streamlined EA requirements for certain municipal infrastructure projects.
CELA's response to consultations regarding multiple exemptions and/or revisions to Environmental Assessment Act requirements concerning parks and conservation reserves, land claim settlements, the GTA West Transportation Corridor, additional Ministry of Transportation projects, and Class Environmental Assessments.
Ontario has exempted forestry activities from the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act, a move that will negatively impact Ontario’s forests, Indigenous people who depend on the health of those forests to protect their own health, and all the rest of us.
Considerable public and political debate continues to accompany the Impact Assessment Act, which was enacted by Parliament in June 2019 as part of the omnibus Bill C-69.
